Characteristics

Husky + Pomeranian

A pomsky is a fusion between 2 intelligent breeds, namely husky and pomeranian. This first step is the most difficult and I don’t do it. So I only breed pomskys with pomskys, after they are tested for 210 diseases. Also typical deviations of the patella and the eyes are checked first.

Hunter

Like most hunting dogs, a Pomsky needs consistent guidance. So consider whether you can be strict in the first year of life. Setting boundaries is the message!

Size

The size of Pomskys is a much-discussed topic. A lot depends on the parents, but the ancestors play a role as well. Make sure you’re well informed.

Character

Does this dog bark? That depends on how many genes it has from the husky or from the pomeranian. In general, a husky is not a barker, but does dare to howl when stressed. A Pomeranian can be a barker.

Will to please

A Pomsky has exceptional physical beauty, a healthy temperament and hunting instinct. With sufficient exercise and play, this dog is easy to train because of its great ‘will to please’. You can start any dog sport with it and make it a house dog as well.

Lifespan

The expected lifespan of a Pomsky is 13 to 16 years. A healthy lifestyle is important to reach this age. So is proper nutrition. The dog breeder can give you the best advice for a healthy dog.

Care

The coat and care of Pomskys should be taking in consideration when selecting a pup. This breed has a thick undercoat and a silky topcoat. Twice a year they shed heavely and they need to be de-wooled daily. Normally you need to brush these dogs every three weeks. A healthy dog will have an ‘auto-clean’ coat that will not tangle and will lose all the dirt.

‘Design’ dogs

Probably you’ve heard of design dogs. Like the pomsky, the labradoodle, the cockepoe, the maltipoe, the bolab … There are definately new breeds in the making while other breeds go ‘out of fashion’. New breeds are part of evolution, as we ourselves evolve over time. The main thing is the health of the dogs. Therefore sufficiënt research and testing are key.
